Financials are the worst performing sector, although healthcare and telcos are holding their ground due to defensive buying.
In company news, Energy Resources Australia has slumped more than 5% after reporting a half year loss of $121.7 million.
Across the Asian region, the Nikkei has swung back into the green (+0.9%) after the BOJ intervened to depress the yen.
Elsewhere, the Hang Seng is down 0.3%, whilst the Shanghai Composite is ahead 0.3%.
