RBA governor Glenn Stevens also helped drive the market higher after forecasting a rebound in domestic consumer spending.
However not all retailers got a lift from the governor’s comments. Myer put on 2% whilst David Jones shed 0.6%.
Financials were among the session’s leading gainers; CBA outperformed the big four, rising 1.4%.
In the mining space, Rio Tinto and BHP rose more than 1% each. Platinum Australia had another forgetful day, sinking 9.2%.
The ASX 200 added 43 points (+1%), settling at 4573.
