FOCUS STOCKS
The Focus Stocks contains detailed research reports on stocks which have made the news over the week. Whilst they may not qualify to appear in the Feature Stocks section, we understand that our members want to stay informed on all of the major breaking events pertaining to ASX list companies.
We'll explain in detail what impact the event will have for the companies concerned, and give you an idea of what to do with them should you have these stocks in your portfolio.

PORTFOLIO
Feature Stocks which we decide to buy are monitored in the Portfolio section. Here we keep you up to date as to any major developments for stocks in our portfolios, and whether we wish to exit any of them.
The Investors Report portfolios have been designed to cater to investors of differing investment need and time horizons. There are four specially designed portfolios:
Growth Portfolio
- Weighted towards high growth stocks such as technology, minerals, energy, and mining services.
- Suits investors who are in their early years of investing, and generally have a long time until retirement. These investors are prepared to take more risk in order to increase return. Income in the form of dividends is of less concern than profits from capital gains.
Balanced Portfolio
- Has a good balance of growth and income stocks.
- Suits investors who are still some time out from retirement, but who are more risk averse preferring to have a balance of income producing shares as well as some high growth opportunities.
Income Portfolio
- Weighted towards high dividend paying stocks and well established business which are not highly dependant on the business cycle..
- Suits investors who are very near, or are in retirement who rely on the income from their share portfolio for their standard of living.
- Low risk with a focus on capital perseveration, favouring stable, well established high dividend paying shares.
The weightings of each stock in these portfolios are specially considered to minimise risk and maximise return. Members can model their own portfolios around our model portfolios based upon their investment needs.
Absolute Return Portfolio.
- These stocks are not considered in terms of building a diversified portfolio - rather they are the stocks we feel are the most prospective at any one time.
- Stocks are generally growth stocks which are showing excellent price momentum.
- Suits more active, aggressive investors which have a medium term time frame.
The weightings of each stock in the portfolio are specially considered to minimise risk and maximise return. Members can model their own portfolios around our model portfolios based upon their investment needs.

HEDGING CORNER
In this section we use derivative products such as options and CFDs to mitigate our risk should there be a broad market downturn.
Often, this is where investors derive the most benefit - in learning how to protect their portfolios and reduce their market risk.
If you are interested in 'covered call writing', and other options strategies which not only reduce risk, but can also add to your income, then this is the section for you.
CALENDAR
To be forewarned is to be fore armed. Members can check this section to see up-to-6-weeks in advance, which stocks are paying dividends, holding annual general meetings, releasing company results, and when major economic announcements will be released.
In the case of upcoming results and economic data, ASR compiles consensus estimates for each, so Members know exactly what numbers to expect. Should the results come in better than consensus, or worse - either way, our members will be prepared to act.

Please Note:
Please note that as this was the first full year of operation of the above portfolios, they generally had a higher weighting in 'Cash' than would normally be the case. Given that shares as an asset class in general outperformed 'Cash', the above returns do not fully reflect the returns possible from a fully invested portfolio.
Disclaimer
Important Information:
The calculation used for the Investors Report Hypothetical Portfolios assumes that each Portfolio has a starting balance of $100,000. Each Portfolio's performance refers to the potential performance which could reasonably be achieved by members who bought and sold shares as suggested in our Investors Report.
Transactions suggested in reports were not actually executed by Australian Stock Report, but the entry and exit points flagged in our Report were however able to be achieved in the market under actual market conditions and prevailing liquidity.
The Australian Securities and Investments and Commission (ASIC) discourage the use of annualised performance data. For this reason, Australian Stock Report does not annualise any performance data. Performance displayed in the Average Monthly Return and Average Annual Return relate to completed performance periods of 1 Jul - 30 June each year only.
Fees and charges:
Due to the significant diversity in the fees charged by Stockbrokers, this data does not include any execution or settlement costs such as brokerage or financing fees. In other words, the data reports performance which doesn't take into account transaction costs. You should check with your Stockbroker or CFD Provider what fees might be incurred in executing the trades suggested by our Reports.
Future Performance:
Note that past performance of trades suggested by Australian Stock Report is not necessarily a reliable indication of future performance. Hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations, some of which are described below. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown. In fact, there are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program. One of the limitations of hypothetical performance results is that they assume a certain level of transaction fees that may or may not be available to a particular investor. In addition, hypothetical trading does not involve financial risk, and no hypothetical trading record can completely account for the impact of financial risk in actual trading. For example, the ability to withstand losses or to adhere to a particular trading program in spite of trading losses are material points which can also adversely affect actual trading results. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results, and all of which can adversely affect actual trading results.
