Evening Market Commentary: End Week On Flat Note
16th Mar 2012Aussie shares ended the week on a flat note, despite mostly stronger gains on International markets overnight.
The sectors finished with 7 out of 12 in negative territory. Consumer staples was one of best performing segments, whilst the energy and materials were among the worst.
The major banks were mixed; Westpac and ANZ both climbed 1%, whilst CBA was flat.
The big miners were mixed on the day as were commodity prices; Rio Tinto gained 0.3% whilst rival BHP declined 0.6%.
Pharmaxis was a stellar performer, up 5.6% after noting European regulators were getting closer to approving its cystic fibrosis drug, Bronchitol.
The ASX 200 slipped two points to close at 4276. Overall the market had a good week, up 1.5%.
