It was a fairly lacklustre day for our market, with the bulls taking control at the open but unable to build on their gains.
The market proceeded to trade within a 20-30 point range for the rest of the day.
The big four were mixed; NAB dropped 0.3% whilst ANZ advanced 0.3%.
The major miners gained ground amid higher metals prices; BHP put on 0.4% while rival Rio Tinto climbed 1.2%.
Energy stocks Santos (+1.4%) and Woodside (+1.5%) were stronger as the market digested yesterday’s production figures.
Also in the energy sector Nexus soared 8.3% after it announced last night a JV with Shell and Osaka Gas on the Crux oil and gas field.
The ASX 200 advanced 25 points (+0.6%), settling at 4240. Today’s gains help the market finish up 1% for the week.
